Q6: I got an i-Geo Bluetooth GPS receiver from my friend in USA. When I connected the Receiver to my iPAQ PDA, it took over 10 minutes to get position fix. Is this normal?

A: This situation rarely happens, but can happen when the GPS receiver has been moved over 500km from its last location with a valid fix. This will cause the data stored in the GPS receiver to become outdated. You can erase this information and bypass this timeout period by manually forcing a cold start on power up by downloading a GPS tester from our website at www.polstargps.com/tech.htm.

The GPS receiver will operate in Hot/Warm start conditions when there is data is stored in the receiver. The outdated information will cause the receiver to search for satellites previously used, rather than satellites currently available for approximately 10 minutes, which is the cause of the delay. After the 10-minute timeout period, your GPS receiver will then operate in Cold Start mode, which searches for the satellites available.
