● Q: Can I put my G-Mouse out of my car to get better satellite reception?
|
A: Yes, there's a magnet inside your G-Mouse unit, which will allow you to place GPS unit on the rooftop of car securely. Your G-Mouse is also waterproof, so it can be used in all weather conditions.

● Q: If I connect TTL output, what's the power input for the G-Mouse?
|
A: We suggest DC 5V input. If you supply 3.3VDC, the performance will decrease.

● Q: Do I need to install any drivers for my G-Mouse?
|
A: You do not need to install any drivers for Pocket PC or Palm PDAs. Your G-Mouse can be used simply by connecting it to your PDA. For PC or Laptop users, you need to install the USB drivers from the enclosed CD, or download them from our website at http://www.polstargps.com/Polstar_Support_Driver_USB.html before using the USB connector cables.

● Q: May I use general (non-rechargeable) batteries in my i-Geo instead of rechargeable ones? Would it be dangerous if I connect the car charger to i-Geo while using non-rechargeable batteries inside the unit?

A: Our package already included 3x rechargeable batteries, but you also can use general "AAA" size non-rechargeable batteries. Please note that it won't be dangerous because there is a protection circuit in the module. But if you connect the car charger to your i-Geo, please make sure there are batteries inside, either rechargeable or non-rechargeable ones, because the i-Geo is powered by batteries, not from external sources. In addition, the battery should be operated and stored in environments less than 60 ¢XC.

● Q: Is my PDA/ Smartphone compatible with the i-Geo?
|
A:Our Bluetooth GPS receiver can work with any Bluetooth enabled devices, including Laptops, PDAs, PDA phones, Smartphones, or devices using Bluetooth Dongles.

● Q: I bought a PMA (Marine Smart Antenna) from your dealer in Sweden, but I found that it didn't work, even with any of the cables that I have (USB, PS2, RS-232, TTL or Serial). What's wrong with the unit?

A: The power input of our Marine Smart Antenna (PMA series) is 9V ~ 34V DC.
No matter what kind of cable/connector you are using, please check if your power supply is correct. DC 3.3V or 5V supplies will not work with the Marine Smart Antenna.

● Q: Do I need a computer to use my RoadMentor?
|
A: Our warranty covers everything that is enclosed in the product package, and a list of what is enclosed can be found on the product packaging and in the user's manual.

● Q: I am having trouble inserting the SD card into my RoadMentor, how should I do it?
|
A. SD card storage mediums can only be inserted into the SD slot in one direction. Please ensure that you have inserted your SD card in the right direction as stated in the User's manual, and make sure that there is nothing in the SD slot. Also, you should only remove/insert SD cards when the power for your RoadMentor has been switched off to prevent damage to the electronics.

● Q: How do I know that my RoadMentor has a valid GPS fix/How can I read my current position coordinates?
|
A: You can determine the GPS status by tapping Menu-GPS info in your RoadMentor. The green location arrow on the center of the map screen will be marked by a blue circle only when you have a valid GPS fix. The position coordinates of your RoadMentor can be found under the GPS Info page, which can be accessed from the main menu. You will need to have GPS fixes in order to read the coordinates from your RoadMentor. Your RoadMentor will be able to generate position readings after establishing contact with 3 or more satellites. Satellites that your RoadMentor have contacted successfully are highlighted in green.

● Q: Do I need to install any drivers in my computer to use my RoadMentor?
|
A: You would only need to install drivers if you want to transfer maps from your Map CD to your RoadMentor via your PC. Simply plug the USB cable into your RoadMentor and your PC and read the instructions given. For more information, refer to your RoadMentor User's manual. ● Q: Does my RoadMentor require any batteries/Can my RoadMentor run on batteries?
|
A: The RoadMentor only operates when it is connected to an external power source, such as the cigarette lighter receptacle in your vehicle. The RoadMentor does not require any batteries, and Polstar does not manufacture a remote battery pack. Please note that any unauthorized modifications or services performed on your RoadMentor will void your warranty.

● Q: What USB appliances does the RoadMentor currently support?
|
A: Presently, the USB connector in your RoadMentor can only be used to establish a connection with your PC in order to transfer maps to your RoadMentor. Your RoadMentor does not support any other USB devices at this time, such as external speakers, flash disks and hard drives.
|
● Q: Can I connect an external antenna to my RoadMentor?
|
A: We will be releasing a updated version of the RoadMentor that supports external antennas, which we will also release under the designation PAT-1000. Simply connect the MMCX (gold-tipped) connector of the external antenna to the MMCX receptacle on the back of your RoadMentor. There is a built-in magnet in the external antenna, so you can mount it outside your car securely.

● Q: Do I need to configure any settings before I use my RoadMentor for the first time?
|
A: No, just simply connect your RoadMentor to an external power source, insert the SD card, switch it on, and your RoadMentor will be ready for use. If placed properly, you should get a position reading from your RoadMentor within 5 minutes when it is kept stationary, and 10 minutes if it is moving.

● Q: My RoadMentor cannot be switched on after connecting it to an external power source.
|
A: First, check the connections between the power cable, your RoadMentor and the external power source to see if they are secured. If they are, and your RoadMentor still cannot be switched on, check the external power source to see if it is working by plugging a different type of appliance. If the external power source is working, your RoadMentor unit or power cable may be faulty. You should return your RoadMentor and all accessories included to the place of purchase, or a Polstar accredited service center to have it tested for free. You can also obtain warranty services there if your warranty is still valid.

● Q: How do I renew my map and data for points of interest?
|
A: Navteq offers yearly maps/POI updates for your RoadMentor. If you require updates, you can contact your local retailer.

● Q: What kind of knowledge do I need to operate your RoadMentor?
|
A: You do not need have any prior knowledge regarding vehicle guidance units or GPS systems in order to use your RoadMentor. The RoadMentor has an easy to use, intuitive interface that can be operated by anyone. The names of each function and button are obvious and easy to understand; therefore you should have no trouble using your RoadMentor.

● Q: Can the mounting shaft provide a permanent fix to the mounting surface? How long can I use it before it needs replacement? And where can I get a replacement?
|
A: If the mounting shaft is installed using the steps outlined in your User's Manual, it will not fall off, unless you pull it off. The mounting shaft is also included in our one-year warranty; therefore you should see your local retailer for replacements of parts for your RoadMentor at any time.

● Q: How do you compare your RoadMentor with the other well-known GPS vehicle navigation units?
|
A: The RoadMentor offers better GPS signal reception, an eye-pleasing design, and better quality for a competitive price. Better reception of GPS signals allows your RoadMentor to receive signals at places where other GPS receivers cannot, such as indoor and urban environments. The eye-pleasing design will make the interiors of your vehicle much more pleasing to the eye.

● Q: How come it takes a while for my RoadMentor to search for Points of Interest?
|
A: Generally speaking, the time taken to search for Points of Interest will depend on the amount of POIs that your RoadMentor has to search through. For example, the search time for a POI in a populated area would be longer than the search time for a POI in a rural area, as there are generally more POIs populated areas. Therefore we recommend you to use search options that are more specific to decrease your search time, such as using the "By City" option instead of the "List All" option.

● Q: Does your products support the NMEA protocol?
|
A: Yes, all our products currently output data using the NMEA0183 v2.2 protocol. All of our products will list the version used in the user manual/data sheets, which can be found from http://www.polstargps.com/Polstar_GPSproducts.html

● Q: Which of your products are waterproof?
|
A: Presently, only the G-Mouse (PGM) and the Marine Antenna Series (PMA) devices are waterproof. Therefore, if the product you are using does not belong in the above list, please keep it away from liquids, as it is likely to damage your device.

● Q: Which of your GPS devices are portable?
|
A: Presently, only the receivers, such as the i-Geo Bluetooth series, GPS-Mouse series and the Marine Antenna series are portable. The Bluetooth receivers are powered by removable rechargeable batteries, while the GPS-Mouse and the Marine antenna series are powered automatically when you connect it to your fishfinders/sonar/PDA or other instrumentation/devices. There are no current plans to make the RoadMentor series portable, therefore it must be connected to an external power source at all times.

● Q: Are there any restrictions with GPS devices?
|
A: You may not be able to navigate in regions where there are no maps available for GPS devices. These regions will vary between different third-party navigation software. The RoadMentor currently has maps of the following regions/countries:

● Q: Are there any costs involved in using GPS?

A: No, GPS is free to all users using civilian code, which is used by most GPS receivers that is available. Therefore you will only need to pay for a GPS receiver in order to use GPS.
